Comfort
Vs Happiness
Man’s eternal search
has always been for being blissful or of being happy. This state of being happy
is not a bodily state that can be attained through any physical efforts of man.
Ironically the human beings have always longed to be happy through their
manpower, intelligence and emotions.
Human beings have
suffered a lot through ages due to the natural forces which he could not
control and was always afraid off; this has inspired man to invent and designed
so many things in order to control the nature. They have controlled rivers
through big dams, heat through air conditioners and invented air planes for
transportation etc. They have also tried
to be happy by attaching themselves emotionally to objects and people around
them. All these emotional attachment and inventions together have made man’s
life more secure and comfortable. But
the million dollar question which can be asked over here is that “Has man
reached any nearer to his goal of being happy? “ the answer to the question
would be a big no, as no amount of machines, gadgets and attachments can make
man happy.
The real source of
happiness is in our mind which quite often mistakes the comfort derived
thorough materials and attachments as happiness. In Gita, lord Krishna has clearly called all
the materials and attachments as the source of grief, as all the objects have
been found to go through three stages of non-existents, existents and
destruction. Humans have derived lots of
comfort by controlling the Mother Nature in the similar way we can also reach
our goal of happiness by controlling our minds. This takes lot of exercise in
checking the balances of our efforts to attain our wants and restraining our
efforts to run after our desires. It also means to cultivate virtues and
eliminate the vices in our life to attain that blissful state which is an
ultimate goal and right of every human life.
